Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and Safran Finalize Strategic LEAP Engine Supply Agreement
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has entered a multi-year contract with Safran Aircraft Engines to manufacture critical turbine ring forgings for the CFM LEAP engine program. This partnership aims to bolster Safran's global supply chain while enhancing HAL's footprint in the civil aerospace manufacturing sector.
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has secured a long-term agreement with Safran Aircraft Engines to produce and supply superalloy turbine ring forgings for the CFM LEAP engine program, a move that signals a deepening integration between Indian manufacturing and global aerospace supply chains. The contract, formalized at the Farnborough International Airshow, mandates that HAL utilize its specialized Ring Rolling facility at its Foundry and Forge Division in Bengaluru to manufacture near-net shape ring forgings, as reported by India Today.
These components are essential to the high-temperature rotating sections of the LEAP engines, which are widely utilized in modern narrow-body commercial aircraft. By incorporating these parts into the engine architecture, Safran aims to meet the escalating global demand for its propulsion systems. Dominique Dupuy, Senior Vice President of Purchasing at Safran Aircraft Engines, noted that the partnership is a strategic component of the company's broader initiative to build a locally integrated supply chain as it scales production capacity.
For HAL, the agreement represents a significant step in diversifying its portfolio beyond defense-centric manufacturing.
